Cognitive Observation #22

  1. Half the time, adherents to a particular socio-philosophical position don't have a clear, thorough understanding of that position. For example, women's lib is often deeply misunderstood by "liberated" women - and the full implications of "it's all relative" are rarely implemented by those who claim it. For example, many women believe in a woman's "right" to join the military, but aren't offended by gender quotas at work... and anyone who disagrees with "I'm OK, you're OK - there are no absolutes", is absolutely WRONG. ;)

I think I'm going to start calling this sort of utilitarian, excuse-based, bumper-sticker misunderstanding of philosophical ideology, "pop philosophy."
